Filmstudio Norrsken

We are a team that has been working together to create series and movies in Minecraft since 2020.The Swedish Minecraft community is getting smaller and smaller every day, which is partly why we exist - to create a new community where people can hang out but also do something together.By using Minecraft as our tool, we have the opportunity to create worlds and stories that can still be interesting and fun for potential viewers, even though it's a game.With the help of the Blockbuster mod by McHorse we have the ability to make our productions even more "realistic" with advanced movements and animations. INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION

Until now, our series and productions have only been for the Swedish community, but "Straight Curves" has now been shared with the English, and thereby the international, "MCTV Network" community.English subtitles have now been added to all episodes of the series, so more people can enjoy it.

STORY

Norrsken has existed since 2020. Here is how we started and how we ended up where we are today.

THE START

DEN STORA TOMTENAPPNINGEN

AN UNEXPECTED BEGINNING - november 2020:

It all started on November 11, 2020, when I, Amy, received a message from my friend, Elise. She was very straightforward and asked if I would be interested in playing an elf in a video of hers. Since I had nothing better to do and it sounded pretty fun, I said yes.

from idea to CHRISTMAS calender:

It turned out to be the beginning of something special. Elise had plans to create a short Christmas calendar recorded in Minecraft as a gift for her little brother, and she had asked close friends if they wanted to participate. After a week, we began working on the script together. Of course, we weren't very familiar with writing scripts, so the quality was mixed. But that script eventually became the story that older studio members remember. "Den Stora Tomtenappningen".

the start of the youtube channel:

A week passed, and we began to think about whether our Christmas calendar could be more than just a short video for Elise's little brother. We later decided to upload the advent calendar to YouTube. So, on November 23, 2020, we created a channel that we named "Minecraft Television", a reference to the Swedish national public television broadcaster "Sveriges Television (SVT)", and shortened the name to "MCT".

newfound interest - december 2020:

We gathered our close friends and acquaintances who helped complete the project. All episodes were then released on YouTube throughout December.Did we know it would continue after "Den Stora Tomtenappningen"? No. No, we didn’t. But sometimes the most random decisions lead to the most memorable experiences.

THE NEXT STEP

EN SAGORESA

NEW YEAR, NEW PRODUCTION - JANUARY 2021

In January 2021, after "Den Stora Tomtenappningen" had ended, Elise and I started working on the next production. It became very clear that we wanted to do another production by that point, as we had had so much fun. We began writing the script, which was eventually completed around May/June of that year.

THE MORE THE MERRIER - FEBRURARY 2021:

Since we realized that we needed more members who could participate this time, in February 2021, we contacted 90gQopen and Agonia SMP. Thanks to them, we had the opportunity to spread the news that we were looking for more members for the production, and we did get some. Some of our current members came from that collaboration. The recordings started in September and were completed in December of the same year.

NEW NAME - OCTOBER 2021:

As October 2021 approached, nearly a year after we started the channel, we felt that "Minecraft Television" was no longer a good fit for us. We decided to change the name to "Filmstudio Norrsken", as we wanted something a bit more unique and recognizable for our community.

PARTING WAYS - DECEMBER 2021:

After all episodes of "En Sagoresa" had been released on YouTube throughout the month of December, Elise chose not to continue with Filmstudio Norrsken, while I decided to continue on the same path that she and I once started on. We then went our separate ways, but the journey was far from over.

THE SHIFT

NÄR INGEN SER

A NEW DIRECTION - NOVEMBER 2021:

During the recording of "En Sagoresa" in November 2021, I got an idea for an upcoming production that would follow a slightly more serious tone. I had partially realized that I wanted to explore a more mature script, with realistic dialogues that included swear words and more serious events. It was a new style, unlike the two previous productions. But it was also a necessary step to take as I had realized that the format of a Christmas calendar didn't fit my way of working.

THE NEXT CHAPTER - JANUARY 2022:

So, at the beginning of January 2022, I started working on the script for "När Ingen Ser", which was completed in April of the same year. Although we didn’t have any collaboration-partners this time, we opened more doors for new studio members, which led to our community growing even more.

A NEW STANDARD - JUNE 2022:

The recording of "När Ingen Ser" began in June 2022 and was completed in August. This production set the standard for the types of productions Filmstudio Norrsken would continue to create.

YET ANOTHER IDEA - SEPTEMBER 2022

In September 2022, while the episodes of "När Ingen Ser" were being released on YouTube, I got another idea for an upcoming production.

NEW TECHNIQUES - OCTOBER 2022:

In October 2022, I began the script for "Straight Curves." The goal was, just like with "När Ingen Ser", to explore a more mature script, tackling more serious topics, emotional dialogues, strong language, and sensitive topics. After months of dedicated work, the script was finally completed in January 2023.

THE NEW ERA - JUNE 2023:

In June 2023, the filming of "Straight Curves" began. However, for this production, I chose to experiment with an interesting mod called "Blockbuster". Through this mod, I discovered the possibility of creating advanced scenes anytime and anywhere, and all that was required was my own effort and months of dedication.I decided to continue using this mod because, with the help of all the advanced movements, I was able to make the characters look even more lifelike than before. This resulted in me having to inform our studio members that "Bodyacting" was now history.So, from the beginning of June to the end of August, I did the recording and animating on my own and led Filmstudio Norrsken to new opportunities.

UPGRADES - SEPTEMBER 2023:

The editing of "Straight Curves" began in early September 2023 and was completed at the end of November of the same year. Everything from sound, lighting, graphics, and music was added to the raw recordings of the scenes. I also had the opportunity to experiment with new styles and ideas.Sometimes, when I took short breaks from editing work, I spent my time creating a new website for Filmstudio Norrsken.

THE FIRST TRAILER - DECEMBER 2023:

In early December 2023, I put together a trailer for "Straight Curves", also the first real trailer we have ever produced.

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION - AUGUST 2024:

Several months after the release of the last episode, I finally chose to share "Straight Curves" with friends from the international community. It didn’t take long before they convinced me to share it publicly with the rest of the community. So, in August 2024, I shared "Straight Curves" with the rest of the world, which allowed people who didn’t speak Swedish to also enjoy the series. It went so far that the creator of "Blockbuster", McHorse, praised the series and in turn also shared it with others.

Before each production, we offer interested individuals the chance to contribute their voices through a CastingCallClub audition page. This is where our cast takes shape.Once the voice actors have been chosen, the process for recording begins.

IN PREPERATION FOR RECORDING

Before the recording begins, the voice actors are given access to the script where they can delve into the story and explore their character's unique personality.After a thorough reading of the script, planning begins for each person to schedule time for their recording.

During recording, each voice actor will participate in a Discord call with the director to receive feedback or guidance on the voice acting for their respective character.Guidance and feedback include, among other things:- Acting alongside: The director can provide their voice and act alongside you as the characters your character interacts with.- Immersion: The director can stage various scenarios that can help you enhance your immersion.During these calls, you as the voice actor are responsible for recording your own voice using Audacity/Adobe Audition.After you, as the voice actor, have recorded all your lines, you are, so to speak, "good to go".

PRODUCTION

PROCESS

We create our series in Minecraft; here is an insight into how our productions are made, from idea to screen.

IDEA

Each production starts with an idea for a story, or a plot.

SCRIPT

The writing of the script starts. Based on ideas collected in a Google document, work gets put into creating a coherent story with unique characters.

PLANNING

Following what has been presented in the script, planning begins for character design and the set design, where reference images are collected and collages are created to best visualize ideas.

CHARACTER DESIGN

The characters get their outfits and general appearances, and if the script requires it, multiple outfits for each character.

SET DESIGN

The set design is built on the server according to the set design planning.

AUDITIONS

Auditions open for voice actors. This is the first meeting with the characters for the studio members. Read more

LINES

Each voice actor records their lines until all lines are recorded. Read more

DIALOGUE EDITING

The lines from all voice actors are edited together to create conversations between the characters. These are then exported to different audio files for each scene.

RECORDING

With the edited conversations at hand, in-game recording begins using Blockbuster. Read more

ROUGH EDITING

After everything is recorded, all scenes are edited together. These are then matched with the corresponding lines.

FINE EDITING

Fine-tuning begins. Visual effects and sound effects are added, as well as music.

PUBLISHING

Thumbnails are created for each episode and everything is then uploaded to the YouTube channel.

Before the in-game recording can begin, all lines need to be edited together into their final conversations according to the script.The lines are then exported to separate audio files for each scene.

With the help of the audio file, the characters can "speak" at the exact same pace as the characters without major issues.This means individual work for the director on the server to record, animate, and finalize all the scenes.

Thanks to the Blockbuster mod created by McHorse, we have the ability to record large scenes without worrying about body actors.With the endless possibilities that Blockbuster offers us, we have the ability to create emotional, almost lifelike characters using animations that can help with body language, posing, advanced movements, and more.

Saga is a 17-year-old girl living in a small village in northern Sweden, influenced by steampunk - a fictional era based on the late 1800s. Her world is turned upside down when her house burns down, forcing her to leave the village she has always lived in and embark on a journey to find someone who can help her rebuild her home. Along the way, she encounters everyone from other people to mythical beings from Nordic folklore.A tale of adventure, drama, and mythical things in a 24-part serial.

Ell tries to persuade Zonia that they are doing the right thing, but a terrible thing happens in the forest. The teenagers then come to the conclusion that they need to take matters into their own hands.

Suspicion increases even more after yesterday's disappearance. Natalie follows Zonia when she meets someone in the middle of the night and learns something disturbing. The youths are structuring a plan to put an end to the misery once and for all.

6 "The End"

The tragedy in the cabin results in the kids being torn apart. Natalie and Raelyn continue to strongly take matters into their own hands. Zonia and Markus try to figure out what to do to resolve the situation.

Studying continues outside of school, and Noah begins to realize that there is something more than just studying that makes him want to spend time with Theodor. That evening, everything changes.

Noah is too afraid to talk about yesterday’s epiphany, so he tries to talk to Theodor to understand what he is feeling. He realizes he has to confess to someone.

Noah and Theodor’s first date, but even though Noah has plans, things don’t go as smoothly as he is used to. Has he really messed up now?

The theater premiere is approaching rapidly. Noah chooses to spend more time with Theodor than with his friends. After his congratulations on the basketball game, everything is no longer so secret.

Theodor is unsure if Noah will show up at the premiere. Noah gets into a fight, and soon the whole school knows the truth.
